I fell in love with leyning (chanting) Torah when I was in fifth grade, and since then, I’ve developed an expertise both in leyning and in teaching others. I’ve successfully taught tweens, teens, adults, and even a JTS cantorial student.
Currently. I’m an undergraduate student in the double degree program at the Jewish Theological Seminary and Barnard College majoring in Jewish Texts and Middle East Studies. I’m a regular ba’alat koreh (Torah reader) and shaliach tzibur (prayer leader) at the Columbia/Barnard Hillel and other locations, including a recent engagement as a prayer leader for the high holidays at a synagogue in Sweden. Additionally, I’m the music director of Pizmon, the Columbia/Barnard/JTS Jewish a cappella group.
I teach all six of the different tropes (cantillation systems) that are used for chanting Torah, Haftarah, and the Five Megillot. I also teach students how to lead prayer services for Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
